Frances Edwards

Frances Edwards is a founding partner at Edwards Family Lawyers, bringing over three decades of dedicated experience in Family Law. She holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws and has been an Accredited Family Law Specialist with the Law Society of NSW for more than 20 years. Frances is also a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, underscoring her commitment and standing within the profession. Admitted to practice in 1985 and practising exclusively in Family Law since 1986, Frances has a deep understanding of the complexities involved in this area of law. Prior to establishing her own firm, she was a partner at a specialist Family Law practice in Sydney’s CBD for over 12 years. Her extensive experience spans a broad range of Family Law matters, including separation and divorce, property settlement, consent orders, financial agreements, de facto relationships, parenting arrangements, child support, child abduction, domestic violence issues, and spouse maintenance. Frances is well-regarded for handling complex financial disputes involving family trusts, corporate structures, and valuations, and she has appeared in numerous reported decisions. Her expertise includes acting for high net worth and high-profile clients, often collaborating with financial advisers to provide comprehensive advice tailored to her clients’ needs. Many referrals come from accountants, financial advisers, as well as other legal professionals, mediators, and barristers. Her experience in parenting disputes is extensive, having represented both parents and children. Frances has served on the panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers, providing her with unique insight into the needs of children affected by family separation. While Frances is a skilled advocate in Family Law Courts, she prioritises dispute resolution, striving to achieve outcomes through negotiation and mediation wherever possible. In addition to her legal practice, Frances has completed the National Accredited Mediator training course with the College of Law and offers mediation services for Family Law disputes.
