Matthew Phaedonos

Matthew Peter Phaedonos is the Principal Solicitor at Phaedonos Law, bringing a depth of experience across Family Law, Criminal Law, and Estate Claims. Since being admitted to practice in February 2008, Matthew has built a reputation for providing clear and practical advice to clients, guiding them through often complex legal matters with thoughtful consideration and attention to detail. Matthew began his career at Borchard and Moore Lawyers, where he developed his legal skills under the mentorship of Bernard John Moore and Adrian John Triaca. By March 2012, Matthew had become an equal partner at the firm, a role he maintained until June 2020 when he became the sole principal. His collaborative approach saw him partner again with Adrian John Triaca in 2014 to acquire O’Neil Behan & Associates, which later evolved under Matthew’s leadership into the current Phaedonos Law. In Family Law, Matthew supports clients from initial consultation through to representation at court, handling complex parenting and property matters with a focus on achieving effective and efficient outcomes. He offers clients detailed guidance on their legal options, anticipating potential developments to assist them in making informed decisions. Within Criminal Law, Matthew represents clients personally from the outset, attending courts for pleas of mitigation and mention hearings. His experience encompasses managing cases involving allegations from a variety of authorities including Police, Local Councils, the RSPCA, ATO, ASIC, and CASA. Matthew approaches each matter with thorough analysis of the evidence to provide sound representation. Matthew’s involvement in Estate Claims draws on the strong history of Borchard and Moore Lawyers and Phaedonos Law in estate administration. He assesses contested estates under the Administration and Probate Act, working alongside experienced barristers to prepare necessary documents and provide pragmatic advice to resolve disputes while minimising costs. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Criminology, a Bachelor of Laws, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Skills and Practice, all from Monash University. He is admitted to practice in both the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia. His leadership continues to guide a dedicated team across multiple office locations, delivering personalised legal services tailored to client needs.
