About Ashley

Ashley Ngion is a Special Counsel with extensive experience in Australian migration and business law, complemented by a broad practice that encompasses trade finance, business acquisitions, international business transactions and structuring, civil litigation, employment, taxation, defamation, and military disciplinary and administrative law. Over the course of more than ten years, Ashley has provided expert assistance to employers and visa applicants, including listed entities and overseas businesses, navigating complex migration issues. She has particular proficiency in business investment visas, employment sponsorship, and partner visa applications. Ashley's immigration work often involves supporting clients facing challenging personal circumstances, including those from LGBTIQ+ communities, individuals with unlawful presence, criminal histories, visa refusals, cancellations, and immigration detention, always aiming to secure appropriate Australian visas. In addition to her migration law practice, Ashley acts for both Australian and international clients on business, corporate, commercial, and contentious matters. She is well-versed across multiple jurisdictions—Australia, China, and Singapore—enabling her to deliver comprehensive legal strategies tailored to diverse business environments. Her experience as a former in-house corporate counsel, combined with private practice, equips her to provide customised commercial solutions that align with each client's unique objectives. Ashley also serves as a Legal Officer in the Australian Defence Force Army Reserves, holding the rank of Major in the Australian Army Legal Corps and Military Legal Service. She is fluent in Mandarin and conversational in Hokkien, enhancing her ability to engage with clients across cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Her migration law expertise covers a wide range of visa categories, including the Business Innovation and Investment (subclass 188), Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186), Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482), Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) (subclass 400), various family visas, general skilled migration, and state nomination and sponsorship applications. Ashley also has experience in representing clients in Administrative Appeals Tribunal reviews, and applications before the Federal Circuit Court and the High Court of Australia, as well as managing ministerial intervention requests. On the commercial and litigation front, Ashley advises on and facilitates company establishments across multiple jurisdictions such as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, China, Hong Kong SAR, British Virgin Islands, and Cayman Islands. She has acted in significant litigation matters including applications under the Instruments Act related to failed property settlements, urgent interlocutory and freezing orders in the Supreme Court of Victoria, disputes arising from business acquisition contracts, intellectual property infringement cases involving Norwich Pharmacal orders and forensic IT investigations, as well as defamation claims linked to online publications. Ashley has also been involved in Fair Work Australia investigations concerning alleged underpayments and Department of Home Affairs inquiries into the employment of unlawful workers. Ashley’s diverse legal background, coupled with her commitment to client-focused service, positions her as a trusted advisor capable of addressing complex legal challenges with clarity and strategic insight.
