About Darren
Darren Sanicki is the principal lawyer and founder of Sanicki Lawyers, established in March 2009. He holds a law degree with honours from Monash University and has completed postgraduate studies in copyright law, trademarks, intellectual property, and industrial designs. Additionally, he possesses a Bachelor of Economics from Latrobe University. Darren began his legal career at Marshalls & Dent Lawyers, where he focussed on business sales and acquisitions, franchising, commercial leases, corporate restructuring, and civil litigation, achieving the position of senior associate in just three years. His significant legal achievements include representing clients in high-profile cases, such as a notable Federal Court case regarding a statutory licence for an iconic song, demonstrating his adeptness in complex litigation. Darren's commercial law expertise is extensive, covering contract negotiations, corporate structuring, and large-scale transactions. Darren has cultivated a diverse client base, including iconic businesses like Windsor Smith, Bad Workwear, and Medical One. An integral part of Melbourne's music and entertainment scene, he has developed Sanicki Lawyers into a leading firm in this niche area. Notably, he's represented prominent Australian bands and artists and was the chosen legal representative for Artists from The Voice across all 12 seasons. His defamation law practice is well-regarded, having successfully represented clients such as Michael Barker from Split Enz in high-profile matters. Darren is dedicated to supporting the arts, volunteering as a pro bono solicitor for the Arts Law Centre of Australia, earning the Arts Law Pro Bono award nine times. He served as Chairman of The Push and was a founding board member of Music Victoria. He also shares his knowledge by teaching at Victoria University. Outside of his career, Darren enjoys family time with his wife Carly and their two young sons, Jacob and Oscar. He is an avid supporter of the Carlton Football Club and is fondly remembered for co-writing "More Than A Game," the theme song for Channel 9's The Footy Show.
