Matthew Hocking

Matthew Hocking serves as a Partner at RHR Legal, bringing a comprehensive background in civil engineering and law to his practice. With a foundational career in engineering, Matthew embarked on legal studies to deepen his insight into the construction industry, ultimately discovering a passion for the legal profession. Specialising in commercial litigation, Matthew adeptly advises clients across various domains, including property and construction disputes, contract matters, banking and finance disputes, security enforcement, and competition and consumer law. His expertise extends to franchise disputes, insolvency matters, and body corporate issues, along with adjudications under the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act. Matthew’s legal career began at HWL Ebsworth, where he spent over a decade as a Partner, honing his litigation skills. He then enhanced his leadership capabilities as a Senior Partner at Dowd & Co before joining RHR Legal as a Director. His education includes a Bachelor of Laws from Queensland University of Technology, supplemented by a Masters in Building and Construction Law from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Southern Queensland.
