About Alya
Alya Barnes is a seasoned Senior Solicitor with a distinguished career in commercial law, particularly pharmacy law. Since 1998, Alya has honed her skills across several esteemed law firms including Gibson & Gibson, McDonald Pynt Lawyers, IRDI Legal, and Integra Legal. Her journey began with Gibson & Gibson, culminating in a role as legal counsel and manager for a publicly listed satellite service provider in Hong Kong for six years. Returning to Perth in 2007, Alya joined McDonald Pynt Lawyers, later moving to IRDI Legal and then to Integra Legal, where she was instrumental in transitioning Graham Quartermaine’s commercial practice. In 2016, Alya co-founded Barnes & Gatti Legal, continuing her focus on leasing and complex commercial transactions, such as multi-million-dollar building sales. Under her guidance, Barnes & Gatti Legal eventually merged with MP Commercial Lawyers in 2023. Alya's expertise extends to business relationship agreements, partnership deeds, joint ventures, business succession, leasing, and service agreements. Her integrity and acumen have been invaluable to business owners and pharmacists navigating legal landscapes. Alya earned her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Western Australia in 1999 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia that same year. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Murdoch University. Currently, Alya contributes to the Liquor Commission, applying her legal acumen to disciplinary matters under the Liquor Control Act 1988.
