Peter Guy

Peter Guy is Special Counsel at Kennedy Guy, bringing extensive experience in business and property law. He joined the firm in 1987 after serving as in-house counsel for a national company. Peter became a partner in 1992 and later a director when the firm incorporated. He was among the first lawyers accredited by the Law Institute of Victoria as a Business Law Specialist, an accreditation that recognises substantial practice in the field and ongoing commitment to professional development. This accreditation requires passing a rigorous examination and regular continuing education to stay current with legal changes. Peter advises a diverse range of clients, from small enterprises to large property developers, on matters including business structuring, town planning, property transactions—ranging from broad acre to high density developments—licensing, buying and selling businesses, franchising, business succession, commercial agreements, and restructuring. His expertise extends to commercial litigation, representing clients in Supreme Court and Federal Court proceedings as well as matters before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Peter’s litigation experience spans all facets of business disputes, reflecting the integral role of dispute resolution in commercial practice. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Economics with a major in Accounting. Peter is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Taxation Institute of Australia, and contributes to the Business Law Advisory Committee of the Law Institute of Victoria. Admitted to practice in 1986, Peter has maintained his specialist accreditation since 1991.
