Fiona Waring

As an Associate at HLS Legal, Fiona Waring brings extensive expertise in employment law, industrial relations, commercial and contractual law. Her practice encompasses a wide array of disputes including unfair dismissal claims, general protection claims, underpayment and entitlement issues, as well as contractual disputes and stop-bullying applications. Fiona is adept in managing matters related to termination of employment, including termination payments and workplace change and restructure. Her proficiency extends to conducting workplace investigations and advising on contracts, workplace policies, restraints of trade, award coverage and interpretation, employee entitlements, and underpayments. Fiona is experienced in preparing deeds of settlement and release and handling discrimination matters and enterprise agreements. She has been actively involved in addressing employment issues arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, including stand downs. Fiona is a versatile practitioner, appearing in a range of state and federal courts and tribunals such as the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Fair Work Commission, the WA Industrial Magistrates Court, and the WA Industrial Relations Commission. Prior to her current role, Fiona served as a Solicitor at HLS Legal, following her initial position as a Law Graduate at the same firm. Her dedication to law was also evident through her volunteer work with the Environmental Defenders Office. Her academic background includes a Juris Doctor from the University of Western Australia, complemented by a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law Australia. Additionally, Fiona holds a Bachelor of Commerce, specialising in Business Law, Political Science, and International Relations from the University of Western Australia.
