Dominic Beckett serves as the Principal at Dominic Beckett Legal & Consulting, bringing over two decades of extensive experience across the public, private, and community sectors. His diverse expertise encompasses advisory, advocacy, negotiation, law reform, policy consulting, and mediation. Dominic's clientele includes Commonwealth government agencies, statutory Aboriginal Land Councils, native title representative bodies, private law firms, numerous NGOs, and Aboriginal communities. His work spans every mainland Australian State and the Northern Territory. Dominic's legal and policy proficiency covers areas such as Aboriginal land rights, native title, administrative law, criminal law, commercial litigation, tax, customs, corporate structuring, community development, housing, and environment and planning. He has been instrumental in significant projects like administrative law proceedings and native title claimant applications, including the Waanyi People’s claim in Queensland. His involvement in statutory Aboriginal land claims, law reform, and mining project negotiations highlights his considerable contributions to these fields. His academic credentials include an LLB (Hons) and BA from the University of Sydney. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance and Risk Management from the Governance Institute of Australia, where he is also a Fellow. Admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia, as well as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, Dominic's qualifications are impressive. As a trained mediator, Dominic has successfully resolved a range of commercial, community, and family disputes and is a panel member on the Federal Court's Native Title External Mediator List. He also contributes as the secretary and a director of Marrickville Legal Centre, reflecting his commitment to legal practice and community service. Throughout his career, Dominic has held pivotal roles, including as Director at Chalk & Behrendt, and previously at Chalk & Fitzgerald, known for its outstanding service to Indigenous clients. His responsibilities have ranged from advising on complex legal matters, conducting litigation, engaging in law reform, to participating in strategic planning and corporate structuring.
