Mark Balfour

Mark Balfour, a seasoned Senior Consultant, brings a wealth of expertise in commercial law and advisory services. Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1985, and on the Roll of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia since 1986, Mark's legal journey began in Perth as a Legal Executive in 1970. He re-established his practice in Perth in 2012 after a decade as senior in-house legal counsel and Executive Director for public companies in the resources sector across Australia, North America, China, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. In 2017, Mark's boutique commercial law practice laid the foundation for Balfour Meagher Legal & Business Advisors. His areas of expertise encompass commercial law, estate and business succession planning, property and leasing law, property development, and the medical and allied health sectors. Mark's legal acumen extends to loans, security arrangements, and conveyancing. His skills are further enhanced by a Harvard Law School course in negotiation completed in 1991, which has bolstered his contract negotiation capabilities. Throughout his distinguished career, Mark has served an array of clients, including statutory corporations and financial institutions, as well as developers and various business groups. His enduring commitment to integrity has cultivated loyalty and trust amongst clients, spanning multiple generations. Mark's leadership extends beyond law, with a significant role as a Trustee Director and Chairman for the Spinnaker Health Research Foundation, now merged with The Hospital Research Foundation Group. Despite transitioning to retirement, Mark remains actively involved in the firm as a Senior Consultant, continuing to practice in property law, business law, wills, and estate planning. His personal life is enriched by his long marriage, three children, and seven grandchildren, alongside his enduring passion for sports and community activities.
