Tom Percy

Tom Percy hails from Kalgoorlie, where his family managed a hotel for many years. Educated at Scotch College and the University of Western Australia, Tom graduated in 1977 and was admitted to legal practice in 1978. In 1984, he became a member of the Western Australian Bar Association and was honoured with the title of King's Counsel in 1997. Tom's practice focuses primarily on criminal law, particularly jury trials and appeals in superior Courts and Tribunals. His contributions to the legal community have been recognised with numerous awards, including the Community Service Award from the Law Society of Western Australia in 2006, the WA Civil Justice Award from the Australian Lawyers Alliance in 2007, and the WA Law Society's Lawyer of the Year Award in 2013. In 2021, Tom was named one of Australia's Most Influential Lawyers. Beyond his legal practice, Tom contributes to the legal field as a member of the Editorial Board of the Australian Criminal Law Journal and the National Criminal Law Consultative Committee. He has also served as State President and National Director of the Australian Lawyers Alliance. Outside the courtroom, Tom is an active columnist for publications such as The Sunday Times and The West Australian and is a regular voice on Perth radio. An accomplished musician and songwriter, he frequently performs around Perth. Tom's interests also extend to sports, where he is a Board member of the Western Australian Cricket Association and the East Perth Football Club, receiving life membership in 2006. As a Patron of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Race Club and a member of Perth Racing, he maintains his connection to the sporting community. Tom's literary pursuits include his recent book, The Curate's Egg. His involvement in community and professional activities reflects a dynamic career that bridges both legal excellence and community engagement.
