Jessica Dowdy

Jessica Dowdy is the Founder and Principal Lawyer at Western District Legal, offering her clients extensive expertise in litigation and dispute resolution. Her practice is defined by her commitment to providing honest, practical, supportive, and cost-effective legal advice and representation. Jessica's legal journey began with her completion of a Bachelor of Laws from Adelaide University in 2009, followed by a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the Law Society of South Australia in the same year. She was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia in 2009. Jessica is known for her approachable nature, bringing a down-to-earth attitude to her practice. Her focus is on simplifying the legal process for her clients, ensuring they receive expert guidance and representation. Her experience encompasses dealing with complex cases involving issues such as criminal behaviour, substance abuse, family violence, and mental health challenges. Jessica is adept at collaborating with other professionals to address these underlying matters while navigating the legal proceedings. Beyond her practice, Jessica plays a pivotal role in shaping the legal landscape in Victoria. She serves on the Committee for the Western District Law Association, having previously held the position of President for a decade. Her involvement also extends to several legal advisory groups, such as the Law Institute of Victoria’s Regional Lawyer’s Reference Group and the Steering Committee for the Barwon South-West Family Law Pathways Network. Her commitment to her community is evident through her active participation in the local business sector, where she contributes as the Secretary and Public Officer of the Western District Chamber. Jessica's achievements as a female regional business owner in a traditionally male-dominated field were recognised in 2020 when she was nominated for the Telstra Business Women’s Awards. In 2022, Jessica's exceptional contributions to the legal profession were honoured with the Law Institute of Victoria’s President’s Award for Outstanding Service.
