Geoff Black

Geoff Black is a Partner and Chair of Partners with extensive experience in medical defence law in South Australia. He regularly represents medical, dental and other health practitioners in civil, disciplinary and criminal proceedings, as well as coroner’s inquests. Geoff provides expert advice to medical and dental defence organisations and their members on matters including risk management, allegations of unprofessional conduct, privacy, Medicare, regulatory compliance, accreditation and doctors’ health. His work also covers administrative law issues related to the professional activities of health practitioners. With a strong background in litigation and dispute resolution, Geoff has acted in a broad range of civil and criminal courts across South Australia, alongside appearances before disciplinary and administrative tribunals. He understands the significant personal and financial impacts of contested litigation and prioritises achieving negotiated outcomes where possible. Geoff’s expertise is widely recognised, having been listed in the national Best Lawyers Australia directory since its inception in 2008. He has been honoured as Lawyer of the Year (Adelaide) in Health and Aged Care Law in 2012, 2016, 2019, 2020 and 2024, and has been identified in Doyle’s Guide as a preeminent Medical Defence Lawyer.
