Paul Jayne

Paul Jayne, a Partner with extensive experience in planning, environment, and property law, has been practising for 18 years. His legal career has seen him provide comprehensive advice and litigation services in planning, administration, and environmental compliance. Paul offers expertise in compulsory acquisition, due diligence, and planning agreements, particularly for clients in the building, construction, and property sectors with projects ranging from $2M to $100M. Paul’s practice includes regular representation of property owners and lessees concerning compulsory acquisitions and conducting litigation across all Land and Environment Court jurisdictions, from Class 1 Merit Appeals to Class 5 Criminal Prosecutions. He is adept in Supreme Court litigation, particularly in matters involving easements, as well as handling disputes in the Local Court such as penalty notices, boundary disagreements, and encroachments. Known for his proficiency in mediation, Paul achieves high success rates in resolving disputes efficiently, benefiting clients with quicker and more cost-effective resolutions. Before joining Madison Marcus Law Firm as a Partner, where he served over five years, Paul honed his skills at esteemed firms like Sparke Helmore and HWL Ebsworth. Since May 2021, he has continued to leverage his expertise as a consultant at SWS Lawyers in Newcastle. Prior to his law career, Paul worked as an electrical engineering officer in the NSW power industry, a background that enriches his legal approach with practical, client-focused solutions. Paul’s academic journey includes a Master of Environmental Law from the University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Science from the University of Newcastle, a Certificate in Electrical Engineering from TAFE NSW, a Bachelor of Legal Studies from Macquarie University, and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from The College of Law Australia. He remains actively involved in mentoring emerging legal talent and enjoys activities such as cooking, travel, astronomy, playing senior cricket, and mountain biking.
