About Yasmin
Yasmin Swifte was admitted to practice in 1996 and brings extensive experience across family law and criminal law. Her family law work spans divorce, children’s matters, property settlements, de facto relationships, relocation, family provision claims, and related criminal issues such as Apprehended Violence Orders. Yasmin has a strong background as an advocate, having previously served for ten years as a criminal prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. In this role, she instructed in numerous significant jury trials involving serious offences such as tax evasion, white-collar and corporate fraud, and drug importations. She has also personally conducted defended hearings, committals, bail applications, sentencing and appeals. With a particular interest in evidentiary issues, Yasmin possesses substantial in-court experience handling complex litigation. She has appeared as an advocate in the Local, District and Supreme Courts, as well as the Family Court and Federal Magistrates Court. Yasmin is also skilled in negotiation, consistently striving to secure the best possible outcomes for her clients. She carefully analyses the evidence in each matter and collaborates with clients to develop tailored strategies aimed at minimising stress, cost and delay while optimising results. Educated at Radford College in Canberra, Yasmin completed her combined Arts (Honours) and Law degrees at the University of Sydney in 1994. She further earned a Master of Arts degree specialising in English literature, and a Master of Laws degree focusing on criminology and evidence. Her thesis explored legal institutions in Charles Dickens’ works and their role in social and moral reform. Yasmin regularly contributes to the Law Society Journal of New South Wales and is actively involved in the legal community, including serving as a judge for the Law Society’s annual Mock Trial competition.
