Stephen Peterson

Stephen Peterson is the principal lawyer and founder of Stephen Peterson Lawyers, established in 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts, with majors in politics and criminology, from Monash University, along with a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. Stephen was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 2010. In 2016, he was recognised by the Law Institute of Victoria as an Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law, and since 2019 he has served on the Law Institute’s Accredited Specialist Criminal Law Committee. Before establishing his own firm, Stephen gained valuable experience as a senior criminal lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid and contributed to the community through volunteering at Springvale and Gippsland Community Legal Services. His practice focuses on criminal law, with a strong record of representing clients charged with serious offences such as murder, sexual assault, aggravated home invasion, armed robbery, drug trafficking and manufacturing, firearms offences, and culpable driving. Stephen’s trial experience in the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria has enabled him to collaborate with some of the state’s most esteemed barristers and Senior Counsel, refining his approach to complex criminal matters. Alongside criminal law, he also handles children’s law matters, ensuring that every case is approached with diligence, commitment and professionalism.
