Michael Kobras

Michael has been an integral part of our firm since his arrival in 1994 and has significantly contributed to our growth and expertise as a partner since 1998. Achieving the notable distinction of being the first "Recognised Foreign Lawyer" in New South Wales, Michael holds admissions to practice in both Germany and Australia, providing a unique dual-jurisdiction perspective to his legal work. Michael commenced his legal journey practising in Munich, where he acquired extensive experience in general civil and commercial law. This foundation laid the groundwork for his proficient navigation through complex legal matters across different legal systems. His academic pursuits led him to complete a Master of Laws in 1997, earning distinctions in international business law, international taxation, and European Union law—a testament to his dedication and expertise in these fields. In addition to his legal qualifications, Michael expanded his professional capabilities by becoming a registered Migration Agent in October 2006, enabling him to provide comprehensive advice in migration law as required by our clients. His practice encompasses a broad spectrum of legal areas, particularly focusing on corporate and business law under both German and Australian jurisdictions. Michael's areas of practice include structuring business models, primarily for German, Swiss, and Austrian enterprises looking to establish or expand their operations in Australia. He is also skilled in intellectual property law, specifically in trade mark registrations, passing off, and handling statutory and other intellectual property infringements. His knowledge extends to employment law where he drafts employment agreements and represents both employers and employees in disputes. Additionally, Michael is adept in drafting and reviewing terms and conditions of trade as well as representation, agency, and distribution agreements, providing clients with comprehensive support throughout their business dealings. Michael's diverse expertise and cross-jurisdictional experience ensure that his clients receive insightful and practical legal solutions tailored to their specific needs.
