Kathryn McLoughlin

Kathryn McLoughlin is a Senior Associate and Independent Children’s Lawyer with comprehensive experience across Family Law. She is committed to guiding clients through the complexities of Parenting Matters, Family Dispute Resolution, and Domestic Violence proceedings with clarity and sensitivity. Kathryn’s approach recognises the emotional strain that legal issues can impose, aiming to provide a calming presence along with practical and straightforward advice. She focuses her practice on negotiating Parenting Plans and Consent Orders, facilitating Mediation, and handling Family Dispute Resolution to effectively manage and resolve parenting disputes. Kathryn regularly represents clients before the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, advocating to progress matters efficiently and minimise ongoing litigation. In addition to her work in parenting disputes, Kathryn has significant experience in Domestic Violence cases, representing both Aggrieved and Respondents in proceedings across Brisbane and regional Magistrates Courts. She is recognised for her role as an Accredited Domestic Violence Duty Lawyer. Kathryn also dedicates part of her career to Child Protection matters, working closely with the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs to advocate for parents and grandparents and support efforts to reunify families where possible. Kathryn holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Business (with Distinction) from Queensland University of Technology. She was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2017 and the High Court of Australia in 2018. Her legal expertise is further supported by her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and accreditation as a Domestic Violence Duty Lawyer. Active in the legal community, Kathryn is a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association and the Pacifica Congress. She is also a Collaborative Lawyer and works as a Parenting Coordinator. Her areas of practice include complex parenting disputes, property settlements, divorce applications and hearings, conciliation conferences, mediation, domestic violence, and child protection matters.
