Alexandra Wearne

Alexandra Wearne holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours and a Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University. She has practised exclusively in family law since 1991, bringing over three decades of experience to her work. Alexandra is an accredited specialist in family law, a recognition granted through a rigorous peer assessment process that evaluates both legal knowledge and practical application. Maintaining this accreditation requires continuous professional development each year, reflecting her commitment to staying at the forefront of family law practice. Her experience as a Solicitor Advocate is extensive, with appearances in complex interim, interlocutory and final hearings across various jurisdictions including the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court, and the Supreme, District and Children’s Courts of New South Wales. Alexandra has also been involved in all stages of Full Court family law appeals, acting for appellants, respondents, and children. Since 1994, Alexandra has practised as an Independent Children’s Lawyer, and from 2003 she has contributed to the development and delivery of the national ICL training programme. She is a member of the Family Law Courts’ Children’s Committee and is frequently invited to speak at national and international conferences on family law and children’s advocacy.
