About Jim
Jim Reaston was admitted to practice law on 27 February 1979, following completion of his articles of clerkship with Wilson Ryan & Grose Solicitors. Shortly after his admission, he relocated from Townsville to Cairns, where he has lived and practised law ever since. Jim began his legal career with Farrellys Lawyers before joining Cairns firm JF Pescott and Associates in 1980. He became a partner in that firm in 1981, practising under the banner of Pescott Reaston Lawyers until 2001, when the partnership was dissolved. From 2001 to 2011, Jim operated as a sole practitioner under the name Reaston Lawyers, which later amalgamated with O’Reilly Stevens Lawyers in 2012. He has recently revived the Reaston Lawyers name in Cairns, collaborating with other members of Reaston Drummond Law. While early in his career Jim worked across a broad range of legal areas, for the past 25 years he has focused primarily on Commercial law, Conveyancing, and Wills and Estates. This concentration has allowed him to develop an in-depth understanding of the needs and objectives of both residents and business clients in Cairns and the surrounding region. Jim maintains strong professional relationships with a network of colleagues in related fields, supporting a comprehensive approach to client service. He is a past President of the Far North Queensland Law Association and currently serves as a Senior Counsellor with the Queensland Law Society. Additionally, Jim offers his expertise as an honorary solicitor to several sporting clubs and charitable organisations. Outside of his legal practice, Jim is married to Bev and is a father to three adult children.
