About Bev
Bev Reaston has been a dedicated family law practitioner in Cairns for over four decades, bringing 42 years of experience to her work with clients. As a long-term Cairns resident and mother of three adult children, Bev understands the complex challenges families face when relationships come to an end. She is committed to achieving the best outcomes in each case, approaching matters with respect and efficiency to minimise cost and stress. Bev’s practice covers a broad spectrum of family law issues, including complex children’s cases, international relocation disputes, constructive trust matters, farming cases, and appeals in the Full Court. She is recognised for her strong work ethic and resilience, particularly in cases that require lengthy and challenging litigation. Her expertise extends beyond legal practice through her role as the Queensland Representative on the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, keeping her well informed on developments in family and de facto law nationwide. Bev has also contributed to the community by serving on various Cairns management committees focused on domestic violence, Legal Aid, and the North Queensland Women’s Legal Centre. Bev was among the first Independent Children’s Lawyers appointed in Cairns and is deeply committed to the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. She has also completed training in Mediation and Collaborative Law, enabling her to offer innovative approaches tailored to her clients’ needs. Throughout her career, Bev has shared her knowledge through presentations to her peers and professionals across finance, psychology, education, and accounting sectors. In recognition of her contributions and leadership, she was honoured as a finalist for the Queensland Law Society’s Agnes McWhinney Award and named Regional Woman Lawyer of the Year by Women Lawyers’ Association Queensland in 2022. Bev’s commitment to family law and the community is also reflected in her memoir documenting the history of family law practice in Cairns. Her professional journey and advocacy have cemented her reputation as a respected voice in family law within the region.
