About Maurice
Maurice Edwards is a Special Counsel with over 40 years of experience in family law, bringing extensive knowledge and practical insight to the firm’s services. He is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law recognised by the Law Society of NSW and holds accreditation as a Family Law Mediator through the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators (AIFLAM). Maurice also practises as a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner accredited by the Australian Government and has completed training as a Collaborative Lawyer. He leads the firm’s arbitration and mediation practice, known as RAMP. Maurice’s qualifications in mediation include studies at Bond University and with AIFLAM, complemented by international training alongside judges and practitioners in the mediation of international child abduction cases. He has been actively involved in accrediting new mediators and has conducted hundreds of mediations throughout his career. His expertise in this area has been shared widely through presentations at seminars and conferences focused on family law mediation. In addition to mediation, Maurice is a prominent figure in family law arbitration in Australia. He has issued numerous Arbitral Awards and Determinations and frequently speaks at professional gatherings on topics related to family law arbitration. His contributions extend to presenting papers on Binding Financial Agreements, the Hague Conventions concerning Child Abduction and Child Protection, as well as on Childhood Gender Dysphoria. Maurice advocates for resolving family law disputes through collaborative approaches, including mediation and arbitration, emphasising their value as effective alternatives to traditional litigation. His philosophy highlights the benefits of these processes in delivering fair and lasting family law outcomes. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts and is actively involved in several professional organisations. These include serving as Treasurer and Board Member of AIFLAM, membership of the International Bar Association and the International Academy of Family Lawyers, participation in the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, the Pacifica Congress, the Law Council of Australia’s Family Law Section, the Parramatta Law Society, and the Greater West Family Law Practitioners Association.
