About Mark
Mark is a highly accomplished director of the practice, whose extensive credentials and experience in both law and business provide him with the exceptional grounding necessary to navigate a wide array of criminal and quasi-criminal matters. Holding a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business with a major in Human Resource Management, Mark possesses comprehensive insights into legal and business frameworks. His commitment to furthering his expertise is demonstrated by his postgraduate qualifications in summary (Magistrates Court) prosecutions. Despite his qualifications to practice as a Barrister, having completed the Bar Practice Course, Mark chooses to engage directly with his clients, valuing the problem-solving aspect of legal practice and the rewarding nature of client interaction. Mark's legal acumen is particularly profound in major criminal areas. He has cultivated a substantial body of knowledge in cases involving murder, weapons, sexual assault, internet and computer offences, fraud, and major drug-related offences. His unique background in investigating and prosecuting major crimes now synergises with more than a decade of criminal defence experience, enabling him to provide robust and trusted representation for his clients. His approach is marked by a compassionate and strategic mindset, employing an innovative problem-solving approach while ensuring clients remain informed and involved throughout the legal process. His notable casework includes successfully defending the "Surfers Paradise sniper" in a high-profile trial that culminated in a jury acquittal after four years of litigation. Another significant victory was achieved in 2016 when Mark, alongside Danielle Warren, represented a client charged with importing over 1kg of cocaine, who was subsequently acquitted by a jury in the Supreme Court. Additionally, Mark has represented the families of workers in the Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Program. Beyond the courtroom, Mark's passion for music is evident in his 15-year dedication to classical piano musicianship and his talents on the guitar, Eb Tuba, and other brass instruments. A participant in several local music bands, he is also pursuing the cello and has mastered circular breathing for playing the didgeridoo. Mark's commitment to community service is demonstrated through his involvement in the Gold Coast City Brass Band, where he serves as a committee member and Honorary Solicitor. His volunteer work with the State Emergency Service, which spans over 12 years, saw him attain the role of Assistant Local Controller Training, entrusting him with the delivery of volunteer training. Mark regularly appears in all Queensland Courts and Crime Commission hearings, providing representation across the state, from metropolitan to regional areas, including Cairns, Townsville, and the Sunshine Coast. His proficiency in leveraging video and telephone facilities underscores his commitment to offering accessible, cost-effective legal services.
