Petra Playfair

Petra Playfair is an incredibly accomplished migration law expert with more than 45 years of experience in immigration and multicultural affairs. She founded PLAYFAIR in 1988, establishing a practice renowned for its dedication to assisting both private clients and corporations worldwide, with migration to Australia. Petra’s career is inclusive of a senior role with the International Social Service, whereby, she collaborated with Australian and international agencies to resolve complex inter-country family and refugee issues. A recipient of the prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship, Petra investigated immigration by adoptees and played a pertinent role in developing Australia’s first ‘Immigration Kit’ as well as establishing the Immigration Advice and Rights Centre. Petra has undertaken leadership positions as NSW President and Board Director of the Migration Institute of Australia. She also served on the Board of the Migration Agents Registration Authority. Since 2010, Petra has spearheaded over 50 taskforces, providing critical assistance to individuals in detention centres across Australia and Papua New Guinea. Petra contributes to migration policy discussions by presenting her research at international academic conferences. Beyond her professional achievements, Petra’s zest for life is reflected in her passion for bodysurfing as a former Australian champion, yoga and skiing. She begins her days with invigorating 2-3 km ocean swims, embodying her commitment to balance and vitality in all pursuits.
