About Michael

Michael Weston has built a distinguished career in family law, with over four decades of experience since his admission to practice in the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1979. After completing his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Melbourne in 1978, Michael initially practised as a sole practitioner in Blackburn South before co-founding Perry Weston Lawyers in 1987. Since 1999, Michael has been recognised as an Accredited Specialist in Family Law by the Law Institute of Victoria, reflecting his deep knowledge and commitment to this area. He is also a trained Collaborative Lawyer and has maintained membership with the Australian Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators since 1995. Michael’s work in family law is comprehensive, with a focus on complex financial disputes, particularly those involving companies and trusts. In 2004, Michael joined Victoria Legal Aid’s panel of Independent Children’s Lawyers, advocating for the interests of children in family law proceedings for over 15 years. He regularly participates in private mediations, informal roundtable conferences, and hearings at both the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court. Beyond family law, Michael has considerable experience in liquor licensing and the sale and purchase of hotels, motels, and businesses. Outside the legal profession, he enjoys travelling, sampling exceptional wines, improving his golf handicap, and spending quality time with his family.
