About Thomas
Thomas Stevens is the Director and Principal Solicitor at O’Reilly Stevens Lawyers Pty Ltd in Cairns, Queensland. With early education in the Queensland State School system, Thomas navigated a fascinating journey from a musician in a popular rock band to a well-respected legal professional. His experience with copyright issues during his music career sparked an enduring interest in intellectual property law. Thomas eventually pursued legal studies, graduating from the prestigious Melbourne University Law School in 1979. He was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 1981. His admission to practice in Queensland came in 1988, concurrently establishing his own firm in Cairns. Thomas's career includes a partnership at the well-regarded firm Weigall & Crowther, which later merged to form Norton Rose Fulbright. Today, Thomas oversees the commercial law division at O’Reilly Stevens and focuses on intellectual property, commercial litigation, business law, property law, and wills and estates. His expertise includes trademarks, copyright, trade practices, and global licensing of intellectual property rights. Outside the legal arena, Thomas enjoys studying Russian and North American history, indulging in music—ranging from Russian composers to Country and Western—and appreciating cinema, particularly the works of Richard Rogers and Quentin Tarantino.
