Alison Nowland

Alison Nowland is the Principal Solicitor at Nowland Lawyers, bringing over a decade of diverse experience within the legal profession. Her approach is grounded in the principles of "humanity before the law" and making legal processes accessible to all clients. Throughout her career, Alison has dedicated more than ten years primarily to criminal law, gaining practical experience with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Legal Aid Commission of NSW, and private practice across greater Sydney, Newcastle, and the Hunter region. She is well-versed in handling a wide range of New South Wales and Commonwealth offences, including serious matters such as murder, manslaughter, personal violence offences, drug-related charges, property and weapons offences, traffic violations, fraud, children's court proceedings, as well as criminal appeals and procedural issues. Alison regularly appears in the Court of Criminal Appeal, Supreme Court, District Court, and Local Court, demonstrating confidence and capability in high-level advocacy. Beyond criminal law, Alison’s experience extends to the management of a multidisciplinary practice encompassing estate planning, debt recovery and commercial law, property law, dispute resolution, and family law. As principal of Nowland Lawyers, her primary areas of practice include criminal law, wills and probate (estate planning), debt recovery, dispute resolution and mediation, as well as matters related to the Mental Health Tribunal. Committed to giving back, Alison has undertaken pro bono work for the past seven years across Sydney, Newcastle, and the Hunter region. She also contributes to the profession through her role as a legal tutor for students at the Legal Profession Admission Board and the College of Law, and by mentoring law graduates pursuing practical legal training. Her academic background is broad and interdisciplinary, including studies in psychology, sociology, criminology, speech pathology, and an honours degree in law, enabling her to offer a well-rounded and empathetic legal service.
