Linton Lethlean

Linton Lethlean brings over five decades of legal experience to Northcote Lawyers, focusing his practice on real estate, probate, and estate planning. A graduate of Melbourne University and Newman College in 1964, Linton has built a distinguished career grounded in extensive legal knowledge and a commitment to public service. His career extends beyond traditional legal practice, reflecting a deep engagement with community and cultural affairs. From 1976 to 1981, Linton served as an elected Councillor on the City of Melbourne, where he chaired the General Purposes Committee. He played a pivotal role in the management and restoration of significant heritage sites, notably as Chairman and later Chief Executive of the Exhibition Trustees responsible for the Royal Exhibition Building. His leadership was instrumental in restoring the Great Hall and advising on the design of the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Linton’s expertise also encompasses governance in diverse sectors, having chaired the Melbourne Wholesale Fruit & Vegetable Market Trust and presented internationally on market management. His contributions to cultural and horticultural industries were recognised with the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1997. Beyond his legal and advisory roles, Linton has held numerous strategic positions, including Acting Director of the Old Treasury Building and consultant to the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria. He has been actively involved with various professional associations, reflecting a broad understanding of regulatory and organisational frameworks. As the Honorary Consul-General in Australia for the Republic of Maldives since 1995, Linton combines his legal expertise with diplomatic responsibilities. He also manages a company producing innovative hanging devices adopted by leading art institutions worldwide. Linton’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws (1964), and he maintains active membership with the Australian Club. His legal practice primarily covers wills and estates, powers of attorney, and guardian or administration applications, providing clients with seasoned guidance on planning and managing their affairs.
