Katherine Guilfoyle

Katherine Guilfoyle is a Senior Associate Solicitor with a focus on family law and estate disputes. She combines her legal expertise with a practical, solution-oriented approach to help clients navigate challenging and often emotional circumstances. Katherine's journey to law began after completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science in 2012, where her interest in medico-legal issues was first sparked. She then undertook a Bachelor of Laws at Newcastle University, graduating in 2015 alongside a Diploma of Legal Practice. Recognising that clients frequently engage legal services during stressful periods, Katherine prioritises detailed communication to understand their priorities and objectives. She adopts an interest-based negotiation style aimed at resolving disputes amicably and efficiently. Where agreements cannot be reached, Katherine provides robust representation in court, advocating strongly on her clients’ behalf. Her approach balances empathy with pragmatism, allowing her to tailor advice to individual circumstances and work towards optimal outcomes. Katherine values collaboration and enjoys working within a team environment to develop creative solutions for her clients. Beyond her role at Next Legal and Conveyancing, Katherine is the founder of Next Step Mediation, where she facilitates mediations in family law, estate matters, contract disputes, and workplace or school disagreements. Her mediation practice reflects her commitment to helping clients find constructive resolutions outside of court. Katherine is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia, and holds accreditation as a Nationally Accredited Mediator under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS). She is a member of The Law Society of NSW and The Mediation Institute. Outside of her professional life, Katherine enjoys spending time with her partner Mitchell and their two children, Maxwell and Isabelle. She also has interests in cooking, reading, and creating legal content for social media platforms.
