About Maree
Maree O’Halloran joined New Law in April 2015 as an experienced advocate with extensive expertise in industrial negotiations. Admitted as a solicitor in 1995, Maree holds a Master of Laws degree focused on human rights and social justice, reflecting her commitment to fair and equitable workplace practices. Before joining New Law, Maree practised at the Welfare Rights Centre, a community legal centre dedicated to social security, family assistance, and employment assistance law. In her role there, she managed the Centre, provided legal representation, and actively championed the rights of workers with disabilities and those facing unemployment. Maree worked closely with numerous NSW trade unions affiliated with the Centre, underscoring her belief in the vital role the trade union movement plays in securing the living standards and dignity of working people. Maree’s career began in education as a teacher, and she has served as President of the NSW Teachers Federation. She also worked as an Industrial Officer with the Federation and practised with McMahon Associates, handling matters on behalf of educators. In recognition of her significant contributions to industrial relations and education, Maree was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2011.
