Dr Matthew Turnour serves as the Director and Chairman of Neumann & Turnour Lawyers, leading the firm's Corporate Governance and Charity Law departments. With nearly four decades of legal experience spanning the business, government, and not-for-profit sectors, Dr Turnour’s expertise covers a broad range of legal areas including land development, insolvency, criminal law, compliance, litigation, and charitable organisations. Presently, he focuses on governance, legal structuring, complex trusts, tax, and fiduciary law. His insights are enriched by his extensive experience as a company director and charity leader, offering practical and client-focused advice. Dr Turnour’s scholarly achievements include a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland, a Master of Arts, and a Doctorate of Philosophy from Queensland University of Technology, where his thesis earned an Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award. He is recognised by Chambers Asia-Pacific Best Lawyers and has received honours such as the Queensland Law Society President's Medal. A Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia, Dr Turnour is also an Honorary Senior Fellow of Melbourne Law School and a Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Institute of Leaders and Managers. As a respected authority, he was appointed by the Australian Parliament as a panelist for reviewing the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission legislation. Dr Turnour is actively engaged in the academic sphere as a sessional lecturer in governance and accountability, contributing to the education of future legal professionals. His role as an International Advisory Board Member of Cambridge Governance Labs at Hughes Hall, Cambridge, further underscores his commitment to advancing thought leadership in governance.
