About Cassandra
Cassandra Newsham is a lawyer at MSM Legal, focusing on Migration Law and Citizenship. From an early age, she has been driven by a strong sense of justice, particularly advocating for refugees and asylum seekers, which inspired her to pursue a career in migration law. Cassandra began her legal studies in 2020 at Flinders University, where she undertook a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice. During her studies, she interned with JusticeNet, contributing to their Pro Bono Connect Service. This experience provided her with valuable insight into the systemic challenges that restrict access to justice, reinforcing her commitment to representing vulnerable communities. In 2023, Cassandra completed her law degree along with a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. That year, she also worked with the Australian Refugee Association within their Migration Team. Her role involved assisting with a range of visa matters including Offshore Humanitarian Visas, Partner Visas, Visitor Visas, Orphan Relative Visas, as well as citizenship applications. She handled complex cases involving inconclusive DNA testing, Public Interest Criteria 4020, and identity and character concerns. Cassandra was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Australia in February 2024 and subsequently admitted to the High Court of Australia. Since joining MSM Legal, she has continued to build her expertise, particularly in Protection Visas, Partner Visas, and preparing submissions for matters before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Administrative Review Tribunal. Known for her thoroughness and determination, Cassandra is committed to exhaustive research and detailed documentation to achieve the best possible outcomes for her clients. Despite the early stage of her legal career, she has already secured important results for those she represents. Outside the office, Cassandra enjoys playing tennis, knitting, exploring South Australia’s natural landscapes, and spending time with her partner and their Siberian Forest Cat, Tilly.
