Michael Paterson

Michael Paterson is the Principal at the firm, bringing a unique combination of legal and technical expertise to his practice. He holds dual degrees from the Australian National University: a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, completed between 1982 and 1986. This background has enabled him to develop a focused practice in computer, technology, and intellectual property law, underpinned by practical experience in the computer industry. Michael is a regular presenter at seminars addressing legal issues related to technology, sharing his insights with various industry and professional bodies. He also contributes as a guest lecturer at Curtin University and Edith Cowan University, fostering the development of knowledge in these areas among future professionals. His legal practice covers a broad range of matters including notarial work, wills, estate planning, and discretionary testamentary trusts. He is experienced in resolving disputes related to deceased estates and provides advice on information technology and intellectual property matters, including document preparation and dispute resolution. Michael also assists clients with business agreements, building and construction issues, and mediates disputes in different contexts. Outside of his professional commitments, Michael enjoys mentally stimulating activities such as Sudoku and Kakuro puzzles, supports local football, spends time on the beach, plays online Scrabble, and stays actively involved in his children's sporting events. He has maintained a long and stable marriage since 1999.
