Meredith Hatton

Meredith Hatton is a solicitor and principal of Meredith Hatton & Associates, bringing extensive experience in family law and conveyancing. Originally from western Canada, Meredith relocated to Sydney in 1984 and completed her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney between 1989 and 1995. She was admitted to practice as a solicitor in 1997. Since moving to the Southern Highlands in 1998, Meredith has focused on providing legal services in family law and property matters. In 2005, she expanded her dispute resolution capabilities by becoming one of the first Australian legal practitioners to qualify and practice as a Collaborative Practitioner. She further advanced her skills through additional training in Collaborative Practice in 2007 and shared her expertise by working with the University of Technology Sydney as part of a team training other professionals in this approach. After gaining valuable experience as an employed solicitor, Meredith established her own practice in 2009, which continues to operate as Meredith Hatton & Associates. She further enhanced her dispute resolution toolkit by undertaking mediator training in 2012, enabling her to offer clients a wider range of options to resolve conflicts amicably. Meredith is the author of the Divorce Survival Guide, first published in 2017, which provides practical advice to those navigating separation and aims to assist in achieving constructive negotiations. She maintains active membership with the Law Society of NSW, Collaborative Professionals (NSW) Inc, and the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators (AIFLAM). Beyond her legal career, Meredith is committed to her local community, having volunteered for many years as a football coach at Bowral United Football Club, working with teams from under-nine to under-thirteen age groups.
