Melissa Lee

Melissa Lee is the Principal Lawyer and Director at Maeve O’Brien & Associates, bringing over 20 years of experience in Family Law. She is committed to helping clients achieve the best possible outcomes through respectful and pragmatic advice, focusing on realistic and future-oriented solutions. Melissa is known for providing diligent client service with a personalised approach. Before establishing her own practice, Melissa led the Family Law Department at a local firm and has worked across various mid and small tier legal practices in Melbourne, contributing to her extensive knowledge of family law matters. Melissa regularly represents clients in procedural and interim hearings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and participates in mediations, collaborations, and other Family Dispute Resolution processes. She is an assertive litigator when court proceedings are necessary and also a qualified Collaborative Practitioner, enabling her to guide families through relationship breakdowns in a cooperative and effective manner where appropriate. Her mediation training further supports her ability to assist clients in negotiating family law matters. Her experience covers a broad range of Family Law issues including complex and high-value property settlements, parenting matters such as parental alienation and child relocation, child support, and family violence matters with their intersection in parenting issues. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne. She has completed postgraduate studies in Collaborative Practice at Monash University, additional training with MELCA, and NMAS Mediation training through the Resolution Institute. Outside of her legal career, Melissa is an avid choral and ensemble singer and serves as a committee member and Secretary of the Australian Chamber Choir.
