Arthur Athan

Arthur Athan is a Senior Associate Lawyer and Parenting Coordinator at Maeve O’Brien & Associates, working exclusively in Family Law. Known for his diligent, empathetic and pragmatic approach, Arthur provides clients with strategic advice and support tailored to their unique family or relationship circumstances. His practical focus on post-separation issues helps clients achieve realistic and workable outcomes. Arthur’s experience spans a broad range of Family Law matters, including complex asset divisions involving trusts and multiple entities, parental alienation, domestic violence, and child support. He is also well-versed in international child abduction and child relocation cases. He regularly represents clients in mediations, Family Dispute Resolution conferences, and procedural hearings, maintaining close relationships with experienced Counsel to ensure strong support throughout litigation. In addition to litigation, Arthur has a keen interest in helping separated parents resolve disputes and foster positive co-parenting or parallel parenting arrangements. As a qualified Parenting Coordinator, he assists clients in implementing parenting orders or agreements, guiding them through ongoing dispute resolution both within and outside the court system. Arthur also advises and assists clients in preparing Wills, providing comprehensive guidance particularly in the context of relationship breakdowns. Arthur holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Music and a Diploma of Languages (Indonesian) from Monash University, along with a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law. He has completed Parenting Coordination Training with Parenting Coordination Australia. Outside of law, Arthur is an accomplished concert pianist, with LMusA and AMusA (Dist) diplomas and a record of success in piano competitions nationally and internationally.
