Matthew's practice encompasses a broad range of property development and environmental law matters, including land use, acquisition, valuation, and infrastructure charging. With extensive experience in the legislative frameworks governing development, such as the Integrated Planning Act 1997, Sustainable Planning Act 2009, and Planning Act 2016, Matthew advises on enforcement, prosecution, and litigation. He has represented local governments in regulatory compliance and enforcement proceedings relating to local government and environmental offences under the Local Government Act 2009, Environmental Protection Act 1994, and related legislation. Matthew has managed numerous Planning and Environment Court proceedings, acting on behalf of both appellants and respondents in development application appeals. His work includes applications to amend existing approvals, securing declaratory relief, and managing the renewal or extension of development approvals nearing expiry. His expertise also extends to Magistrates Court prosecutions and defences, Land Court proceedings including land valuation appeals, and negotiation of resumption agreements and land acquisitions. Matthew regularly advises on strategic development, planning scheme and conditions drafting, and environmental matters such as vegetation clearing. Through his balanced approach, Matthew supports clients in navigating complex regulatory processes and achieving their development objectives within the framework of Queensland’s planning and environmental laws.
