James Mulcahy is the Managing Director of Ligeti Partners, bringing over a decade of experience in insurance litigation to his leadership role. Admitted to practice in the Australian Capital Territory since 2009, James holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University. James’s practice focuses on insurance litigation with a significant emphasis on property damage claims. He provides strategic advice to property insurers across various sectors including motor vehicle, commercial property, and marine insurance. His expertise encompasses managing both defended and recovery proceedings, with particular involvement in credit hire disputes, recovery agent claims, indemnity issues, and claims involving allegations of fraud. James also regularly advises on policy interpretation, unfair contractual terms, commercial property recoveries, complex liability issues, and domestic carriage of goods claims. As the head of a team responsible for litigated claims valued at approximately $100 million annually, James works closely with leading insurers such as Youi, Auto & General Insurance, Suncorp, Marsh, and NTI.
