Joanne Kinslor

Joanne Kinslor is an experienced immigration lawyer known for her comprehensive knowledge of immigration law and her commitment to resolving complex immigration matters. With a career spanning over two decades, her clients value her tenacity and success in handling challenging cases. Since 2006, Joanne has been recognised by the Law Society of New South Wales as an accredited immigration practitioner, a distinction held by fewer than 40 solicitors in the state. She combines her practice with academia, serving as the Course Convenor and Principal Lecturer for Australian Immigration Law and Practice at the University of New South Wales. Additionally, she is affiliated with the Andrew and Renata Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law. Joanne actively contributes to the legal community through her involvement with the Law Council of Australia’s Migration Law Committee, where she engages in national discussions on immigration law and policy and participates in parliamentary submissions. She also shares her expertise through lectures for the Australian National University Graduate Certificate of Migration Law and Practice and delivers professional education to members of the legal profession. Her commitment to social justice is reflected in her past role as President of the Management Committee of the Refugee Advice and Casework Service, a centre dedicated to providing pro bono assistance to asylum seekers. Joanne has also served on the Human Rights Committee of the Law Society of New South Wales. Joanne’s expertise has been recognised in Best Lawyers – Australia, Immigration Law edition, by the Australian Financial Review annually from 2008 through to 2025. She was honoured as Lawyer of the Year for Immigration in Sydney in 2017. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from The University of Sydney and is admitted to practice in the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Joanne has authored numerous articles and delivered lectures on key immigration topics, contributing to leading journals and conferences. Her work includes publications in the Australian Institute of Administrative Law Forum and the Australian Journal of Human Rights, reflecting her engagement with both practice and policy in migration law.
