David Kelly

David Kelly is the founder and managing director of KHQ Lawyers. He holds degrees in law and science (with honours) and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. David began his legal career practising with leading firms in Perth and Melbourne between 1996 and 2002 before transitioning to an in-house role at Toyota Australia. Recognising a gap in the legal services market, he established KHQ Lawyers in 2006 with a vision to create a ‘boutique top-tier’ firm combining elite legal talent and expertise with the agility, efficiency, and client-focused approach typically found in smaller firms. Since its inception, KHQ has grown into a full-service commercial law firm of over 90 professionals across 15 practice areas, known for its innovative and high-quality service delivery. In his role as managing director, David represents the firm publicly and leads its strategic development and growth. He oversees the firm’s culture and works closely with practice group leaders to mentor lawyers throughout their careers. David is also a committed advocate for innovation within the legal industry, particularly in advancing new models for delivering legal services and supporting the professional development of lawyers.
