About Kate
Kate Keating brings over 35 years of experience in Family Law and leads our Family Law team with a deep commitment to supporting clients through the complexities of separation and family disputes. Throughout her career, Kate has embraced a range of dispute resolution methods including Mediation, Collaborative practice and Arbitration, ensuring clients are fully informed of all avenues available to help resolve their matters in the most constructive way possible. Kate is widely recognised within the legal profession for her expertise and client-centred approach. In 2024, Doyle’s Guide to the Legal Profession ranked her as a Pre-eminent Family Lawyer in the Gold Coast category for Family and Divorce Lawyers, and as a Leading Family Lawyer in both High-value and Complex Property matters and Parenting and Children’s matters in Regional Queensland. Beginning her career in Commercial and Civil Litigation, Kate developed strong advocacy skills that enrich her family law practice. When Court proceedings are necessary, she is a skilled litigator who carefully prepares each case, working closely with experienced barristers and expert witnesses in financial and social sciences to secure the best outcomes for clients. Kate’s focus, however, remains on avoiding litigation wherever possible. She is a Nationally Accredited Mediator and has completed extensive training in Collaborative practice, equipping her to guide clients through alternative dispute resolution processes effectively. Her background as a mediator enhances her ability to prepare and represent clients in negotiations both in and outside of Court settings. Beyond her practice, Kate is actively involved in the broader family law community. She was a founding member of the Queensland Association of Collaborative Practitioners and continues as a Board member. She also chairs the Gold Coast Family Law Pathways Group, facilitating cooperation between legal professionals, the Court, and community support services addressing issues faced by families after separation or domestic violence. Kate holds memberships with the Queensland Law Society, the Law Council of Australia Family Law Section, the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland, the Australian Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators, the Resolution Institute, the International Academy of Collaborative Practitioners, the Queensland Association of Collaborative Practitioners, and the Collaborative Practitioners Gold Coast Practice Group. Her dedication to professional development and collaborative community involvement ensures clients receive well-rounded and informed family law guidance.
