About Jessica
Jessica Hodge is an experienced solicitor practising in medical negligence, Queensland workers’ compensation, motor vehicle, and public liability matters. She graduated with honours from the University of Queensland in 2015, earning a combined Bachelor of Arts/Laws degree supported by the Australian Veterans’ Children’s Assistance Trust, an opportunity she acknowledges as instrumental in her academic success. During her university years, Jessica actively engaged in mooting, representing her university at national and international levels. Her victory in UQ’s 2014 witness examination competition was a pivotal moment, igniting a lasting enthusiasm for advocacy. This passion continues as she frequently contributes as a judge and mentor for witness examination competitions across university, state, and national stages. Admitted to practice by the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in 2016, Jessica commenced her legal career in commercial litigation before focusing on personal injury law. Since 2018, she has represented clients in various workers’ compensation schemes and claims involving medical negligence, motor vehicle accidents, and public or product liability, building a reputation for meticulous case preparation and a strong command of both legal principles and medical evidence. Joining James Law in April 2024, Jessica combines her keen interest in case law with a detailed approach to medical research, ensuring her clients receive informed and thorough representation. Beyond her legal work, she serves as Secretary of the Management Committee for Basic Rights Queensland, a community legal centre dedicated to advocacy and legal services in social security, disability discrimination, mental health, and women’s employment rights. Outside the office, Jessica balances her professional commitments with caring for two rescue dogs and pet parrots, and nurturing her extensive collection of Breyer model horses. Jessica’s qualifications include a Diploma of Speaking and Communicating from the Australian College of Music, a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law, and a Graduate Diploma of Law from the University of Melbourne. Notable cases she has worked on encompass key appeals and proceedings in workers’ compensation and personal injury matters in courts and tribunals across Queensland and the Northern Territory. She is a member of the Queensland Law Society, Australian Lawyers Alliance, Basic Rights Queensland, and the University of Queensland Law Alumni Association. Her personal interests also include memberships in the Parrot Society of Australia and the Breyer Premier Collectors Club.
