Abi Uthayachandran

Abi is a Partner based in Sydney within the Banking and Financial Services group. He provides legal advice to corporate and institutional lenders and borrowers on a broad range of debt and quasi-equity transactions, including syndicated, club, and bilateral facilities. Abi’s extensive knowledge and strategic approach have supported clients through complex corporate finance, real estate, and project development deals. He holds a particular interest in ESG and sustainable finance products. Abi’s client base includes major banks, non-bank lenders, and fund managers. He prioritises establishing strong relationships with clients, taking the time to understand their objectives and risk tolerances, which enables him to deliver tailored and pragmatic solutions to legal issues that arise in debt arrangements. His experience covers acquisition finance, banking and financial services, and real estate finance. Noteworthy engagements include advising a major Australian bank on the acquisition facility for AC3’s purchase of Bulletproof (ASX:BPF) via a scheme of arrangement, and assisting InterOil Corporation on a USD250 million working capital facility from a syndicate of lenders that was subsequently increased to USD400 million. Abi has also advised on substantial construction funding for apartment developments, significant investment and development facilities for shopping centre investors and family offices, as well as inaugural green loan facilities for fund managers.
