About Pat
Pat Howman began his legal career after completing a law degree at Melbourne University in 1975, following his secondary education at Monivae College in Hamilton, Victoria. In 1989, he was appointed as a Notary Public and has held accreditation in Family Law through the Law Institute of Victoria since 1990. In 1985, Pat acquired the Portland branch office of Melville Orton and Lewis and has maintained a continuous presence in the region since then, expanding his practice through the acquisition of additional legal firms. He holds the distinction of being the longest-serving lawyer practising in the Portland area. Pat has been an active member of the Western District Law Association committee since 1986 and served on the Law Institute Council in 1997/98. His principal practice areas include Family Law and Criminal Law, alongside various litigation matters. Beyond his legal work, Pat is deeply involved in community and service organisations across South West Victoria, demonstrating a strong commitment to the region. His personal interests include walking, cycling, travel, and fishing. Pat's family is well established locally, with four children and nine grandchildren residing in the Portland area.
