Geoff Simpson

Geoff Simpson holds degrees in Law and Economics, which he completed in the 1970s. After beginning his legal career with a mid-tier city firm’s suburban office, he relocated to Portland in 1980. Geoff joined Hull Newns & Ballantyne, moving to its Hamilton office in 1983. Following a merger with Cameron and Lowenstern in the mid-1980s, the firm became Hunter Newns, where he was a partner until 2007. He continued contributing as a Consultant until 2015, before joining HBH Legal as a Consultant the same year. With over three decades of experience, Geoff has practised extensively in business law, including wills, powers of attorney, succession planning, and deceased estates. He has developed particular expertise in dealing with “Old Law” Titles, their conversion to Titles under the Transfer of Land Act, and matters involving adverse possession. His practice also encompasses general conveyancing, comprising farm sales and leases, retail leasing, business acquisitions and disposals, as well as subdivisions. Beyond his professional pursuits, Geoff has a strong sporting background, having been a playing coach for football clubs in the Hampden league and a premiership player in cricket. Currently, he enjoys running, walking and cycling. Geoff resides in Port Fairy with his wife Elaine, to whom he has been married for over 40 years, and together they have two adult children.
