Amber Agustin is a Partner based in Melbourne with over 20 years of experience in tax and litigation. She focuses on engaging with tax regulators and managing tax disputes at all stages, from early prevention through to litigation. Amber brings considerable technical expertise in employment-related taxes, payroll tax, superannuation guarantee compliance, remuneration, workforce tax matters, and the Research and Development Tax Incentive. Throughout her career, Amber has advised a diverse range of clients including public sector bodies, ASX-listed companies, universities, schools, privately held groups, high net worth individuals, family offices, Australian subsidiaries and employers. Her approach emphasises early dispute management, covering areas such as responses to questionnaires, risk reviews, audits, and representation in tax tribunals and courts. Amber’s experience extends to handling multi-agency tax investigations and navigating ATO and state revenue powers, including raids and notices. She provides guidance on tax corporate governance for boards and tax managers and supports clients with tax regulator engagement involving private and public rulings, voluntary disclosures and compliance advice. Her technical knowledge encompasses a broad range of employment-related taxes, including payroll tax across all Australian jurisdictions, PAYG, FBT, Single Touch Payroll, genuine redundancy payments, employment termination payments, and tax implications associated with end-of-employment arrangements. Amber also advises on superannuation guarantee obligations, payroll tax and superannuation reviews and remediations, as well as superannuation schemes administered by Commonwealth, state and local governments. In addition, Amber is experienced in matters related to early retirement schemes, class rulings and the administration of the Research and Development Tax Incentive program overseen by AusIndustry and the ATO.
