Mittu Gopalan

Mittu Gopalan is a solicitor with over 20 years of experience in the legal profession, currently serving as Principal of her own practice. She gained her legal qualifications from the University of Sydney in 1996, subsequently progressing to the roles of Associate and Partner at a previous firm before establishing her own legal practice. Mittu’s work encompasses a wide range of legal matters including Family Law, Family Provision Claims, Commercial Law, Deceased Estate Claims, Wills, Debt Recovery, and Personal Injury Claims. With substantial experience across all principal aspects of Family Law, she adopts a pragmatic and empathetic approach to assist clients during challenging periods. Mittu is committed to providing cost-effective and timely solutions, having assisted clients with matters such as Spousal Maintenance, complex Property Settlements, Child Support, and Child Abduction cases, including those involving international jurisdictions, particularly India. Her dedication extends beyond legal expertise; Mittu is recognised for her compassionate manner and her ability to support clients through difficult times, ensuring they feel supported and understood throughout the legal process. Mittu has recently contributed to discussions on Well-Being and Mental Health in the Digital Era alongside prominent Australian leaders and dignitaries. She also serves as the Multicultural Ambassador for the City of Ryde in partnership with the Community Migrant Resource Centre, delivering voluntary legal services focused on assisting migrants affected by domestic violence and abuse. Throughout her career, Mittu has been involved in precedent-setting cases, including those related to IVF procedures and personal injury claims, which have attracted notable media attention. She has also successfully handled cross-border parental abduction matters, utilising her contacts and legal expertise to secure the return of children taken overseas without consent. Mittu holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Academic Law from the University of Sydney. She is an active member of numerous professional and community organisations, including the Asian Australian Lawyers Association, Australia India Business Chamber, City of Sydney Law Society, Women Lawyers Association of NSW, and several multicultural and business chambers.
