About Marius
Marius brings a wealth of experience to his role as CEO of VACRO, having demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise in the realm of human rights and criminal justice. Prior to joining VACRO, Marius notably expanded the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law at Monash University from its humble beginnings into a globally recognised institution known for its impactful work in human rights policy, public education, and research. At the Castan Centre, Marius channelled his passion for criminal justice reform by establishing a robust policy framework that prioritised issues surrounding criminal justice and prisons. His leadership in spearheading a comprehensive research initiative into the use of force across detention facilities underscores his commitment to reform and advocacy. Furthermore, Marius co-founded the Indigenous Group of Learning, an innovative program working directly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men at Port Phillip Prison, reflecting his dedication to addressing systemic inequalities. In addition to his academic and advocacy work, Marius has an extensive background in commercial law, having practised at several respected law firms. His professional journey has also seen him engage in humanitarian efforts, such as assisting refugees in the Philippines and directing an aid and development programme across Sudan and Eritrea. Marius continues to contribute to social justice as a Board member of the Disability Discrimination Legal Service, further illustrating his commitment to equity and inclusion in legal practice.
