Michelle Dawson is the Managing Principal at Emplawyer, bringing over 20 years of experience in employment, industrial relations and discrimination law. Having built her career in some of Australia’s most reputable mid-tier commercial law firms, Michelle combined her extensive legal expertise and practical business insight to establish Emplawyer in 2022. Throughout her career, Michelle has advised and represented both employers and employees across a wide range of workplace relations matters. Her hands-on experience includes interpreting and applying key legislation such as the Fair Work Act 2009, managing employment disputes including unfair dismissal and unlawful termination claims, and navigating complex enterprise bargaining processes. Michelle is well-versed in the drafting and negotiation of employment contracts, handling workplace investigations, and providing strategic advice on redundancy, restructuring, and workers’ compensation issues. Michelle’s approach is characterised by her commitment to delivering practical solutions that align with her clients’ business objectives while ensuring compliance with evolving employment laws. She has also played an active role in shaping professional standards, contributing to the Law Institute of Victoria’s Workplace Relations Advisory Committee and participating in the NSW Law Society’s Employment Law Committee. Her expertise has been recognised through industry accolades, including winning the Lawyer’s Weekly Employment Law Partner of the Year Award in 2023 and being named a finalist in 2025.
