Basil L Stafford LL.B. (Melb) serves as In-House Counsel at Elliott Stafford. Admitted to practise in 1977 after earning his Bachelor of Law from the University of Melbourne, he furthered his legal training at the College of Law in New South Wales before returning to Victoria to be called to the Victorian Bar. With over three decades as a barrister, Mr Stafford transitioned to an in-house role with the firm, bringing extensive experience in Local Government Law. He has practised in this field for more than 25 years, developing comprehensive expertise across various facets of Local Government operations. Mr Stafford regularly represents clients in the Victorian Magistrates’ Court, County Court, Supreme Court, and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. His involvement in several significant Local Government cases in the Supreme Court of Victoria highlights his acknowledged experience in this area. Throughout his career, Mr Stafford has contributed to professional groups including the Regional Rural Prosecutors Group and the Victorian Municipal Prosecutors Group Inc. He is also a trusted advisor and is often invited by State and National radio stations to provide insights on matters such as animal management and other Local Government issues. Mr Stafford holds admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia since 1977. He is a former member of the Victorian Bar and continues to apply his extensive legal knowledge to support the firm’s commitment to clients in Local Government law.
